Black Fused Alumina

Description

Black Fused Alumina is a high-performance abrasive material produced by melting high-quality bauxite with a reducing agent in an electric arc furnace. The result is a black, angular abrasive primarily composed of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) with minor amounts of iron oxide and titanium oxide. It features excellent toughness, high thermal conductivity, moderate hardness, and outstanding cutting ability.

Due to its sharp grain and superior resistance to fracturing, Black Fused Alumina is ideal for grinding, polishing, and sandblasting applications on hard materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys. It is widely used in the manufacturing of bonded abrasives (grinding wheels, cutting discs), coated abrasives (sandpaper, abrasive cloth), and in surface preparation tasks in foundries, machine shops, and the electronics industry.

Compared to Brown Fused Alumina, BFA offers better toughness and lower friability, making it suitable for impact-intensive applications requiring a balance between cutting efficiency and durability. It is also used in refractory materials, anti-skid flooring, and as a blasting media in demanding industrial operations.
