Industry Update | May 27, 2025
As global manufacturing continues to raise its standards for precision and quality, the demand for high-consistency, long-lasting abrasives is growing rapidly. From aerospace components to medical device production, specialized abrasive materials are becoming essential to ensuring both product quality and operational efficiency.
According to data released by the China Machine Tool & Tool Builders’ Association, fine-grain fused alumina, stainless steel shot, and cut wire shot have seen significant increases in demand in both domestic and international markets. In Q1 2025, exports of fine-grade abrasives used in electronics, engine components, and mold polishing rose by over 18% year-on-year, with major buyers located in Japan, South Korea, and Germany.
A materials engineer from a Liaoning-based abrasive manufacturer stated:
“We’ve introduced automated screening systems and micro-powder grading technology to ensure precise particle distribution—something our aerospace and semiconductor clients highly value.”
As the need for tight tolerance control and minimal surface deformation intensifies, traditional blasting media is being replaced by more refined alternatives. For instance, white fused alumina is gaining popularity in precision sandblasting applications thanks to its high purity, hardness, and non-contaminating properties.
Environmental and occupational safety standards are also pushing manufacturers to develop low-dust, recyclable abrasives. Some high-carbon cut wire shot products now boast over 2,000 reuse cycles, significantly reducing both operational costs and environmental impact.
Industry analysts note that the abrasives sector is entering a new phase of growth driven by technological differentiation and specialized applications. Companies investing in precision grading, clean production, and tailored formulas are poised to capture greater market share in high-value industries.
As semiconductors, precision machinery, and clean energy equipment demand increasingly high surface quality, abrasive manufacturers are rapidly adjusting their R&D and production strategies to meet the global market’s evolving standards for high-performance materials.
